Tongkat ali, a medicinal herb with all the scientific name, Eurycoma longifolia Jack, can be a popular herbal supplement with many different purported benefits. According to the British Journal of Sports Medicine, the active constituents of tongkat ali appear to be eurycomalacton, eurycomanon, and eurycomanol. Research studies in the active chemical aspects of Tongkat ali extract have revealed several possible uses of the herb, namely, being an aphrodisiac, ergogenic aid and cancer-fighting agent.
One of several purported uses of tongkat ali can be as an ergogenic aid, or perhaps a supplement that enhances the body’s adaptive reply to exercise. Tongkat Ali is thought to generate this effect by causing an increase in the body’s degrees of testosterone, a male se-x hormone which effects muscle size and gratification. Based on a 2003 study by S. Hamzah plus a. Yusof in “The British Journal of Sports Medicine,” a tongkat ali extract together with a weight-training program, caused an increase in lean body mass along with a loss in fat tissue in accordance with placebo. This supports the usage of tongkat ali by athletes as an ergogenic aid.
As tongkat ali is thought to increase levels of the male se-x hormone testosterone, it might have utility being a libido-enhancer or general male se-xual aid. Tongkat ali has also been studied as a possible cancer-fighting agent, as a number of it’s chemical constituents have been shown to exert anti-cancer effects in studies. In accordance with a 2005 study dexjpky63 Tee TT and Azimahtol HL from the journal, “Anticancer Research,” an extract of tongkat ali exerted anti-proliferative effects against human breast cancers cells. Inside a 2003 study conducted at National Cheng Kung University and published in “The Journal of Natural Products,” an extract of pine pollen tablet killed human lung cancer cells, in addition to demonstrating anti-malarial effects.
